The 65-megawatt Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project, slated for construction in Manang, has achieved a significant milestone by securing over NPR 10 billion in both domestic and foreign financing. This crucial financial closure paves the way for the immediate commencement of construction activities, marking a pivotal moment for Nepal's burgeoning energy sector. The formal agreement between Dudhkoshi Hydropower Company, a subsidiary of Mountain Energy Limited, and the consortium of lending banks, signifies a robust commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure in the country.

The financing structure is led by NMB Bank, which has committed a substantial NPR 6.81 billion as the lead financier. Sanima Bank joins as a co-financing partner, contributing NPR 3.20 billion. Together, these two prominent Nepali commercial banks are providing a total loan facility of NPR 10.01 billion. This substantial debt financing forms the backbone of the project's capital requirements, demonstrating the banking sector's growing confidence in large-scale hydropower ventures and their potential for sustainable returns. The involvement of such established financial institutions underscores the project's viability and the broader market's belief in Nepal's hydropower potential.

The total estimated cost for the Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project stands at NPR 12.89 billion. With the banking consortium providing NPR 10.01 billion, the remaining capital will be injected by the promoter company, Dudhkoshi Hydropower Company, through equity contributions. A particularly attractive aspect of this project is its projected cost-efficiency. The estimated cost per megawatt is anticipated to be less than NPR 20 crore, which is considered highly competitive and economical within the hydropower industry. This efficient cost structure enhances the project's financial viability and potential profitability, making it an appealing prospect for investors and stakeholders alike. Such cost-effectiveness is crucial for ensuring competitive electricity tariffs and maximizing returns over the project's operational lifespan.

With the financial resources now firmly in place, the company is poised to accelerate the project's construction phase. According to Mr. Pradip Jang Pandey, Chairman of Mountain Energy Limited, the ambitious target is to commence electricity generation within three years of the construction start date. This aggressive timeline underscores the urgency and strategic importance of the project in addressing Nepal's growing energy demands and reducing its reliance on imported power. The successful and timely completion of projects like Dudhkoshi is vital for achieving national energy security and fostering economic growth, contributing significantly to the national grid and supporting industrial development.

The Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project is not merely an infrastructure development; it represents a significant stride towards strengthening Nepal's green energy portfolio. Beyond contributing 65 MW to the national grid, the project is expected to bring substantial socio-economic benefits to the Manang region, including job creation, local infrastructure development, and increased economic activity. For investors, this development signals a positive outlook for Mountain Energy Limited and the broader hydropower sector. The ability to secure significant financing from reputable domestic banks, coupled with an attractive cost-per-megawatt ratio, highlights the project's strong fundamentals and potential for long-term value creation. It reinforces the narrative that Nepal's hydropower sector continues to be a fertile ground for investment, driven by strong government support for renewable energy and increasing domestic demand. This financial closure serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts between developers and financial institutions in propelling Nepal towards a sustainable and energy-rich future, promising stable returns for stakeholders and a greener tomorrow for the nation.
