Mahuli Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MSLB) has delivered an exceptional performance in the recently concluded fiscal year, as revealed by its unaudited fourth-quarter financial statements. The microfinance institution has reported a staggering surge in net profit, alongside significant improvements across key financial indicators, painting a highly optimistic picture for investors and stakeholders. This remarkable turnaround underscores MSLB's enhanced operational efficiency and strategic financial management.

For the fiscal year ending Ashar (mid-July), MSLB recorded a net profit of NPR 193.2 million. This represents an astounding increase of 1036.46% compared to the NPR 17 million net profit reported in the previous fiscal year. Such a monumental leap in profitability, exceeding a tenfold rise, is a testament to the company's robust growth trajectory and effective cost control measures. This impressive growth is primarily attributed to a substantial increase in net interest income and a prudent approach to managing non-performing loans.

The company's core earning capacity, reflected in its net interest income, also witnessed a healthy expansion. It grew from NPR 355.9 million in the prior fiscal year to NPR 497.4 million in the recently concluded period. This significant boost in interest income, coupled with a notable reduction in provisions for bad loans, propelled the operating profit from NPR 22.3 million to an impressive NPR 276.1 million. The ability to generate higher income while simultaneously reducing the financial burden of problematic assets highlights MSLB's improved asset quality and operational effectiveness.

Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects for shareholders is the substantial increase in distributable profit. After regulatory adjustments, MSLB's distributable profit reached NPR 165 million by the end of Ashar, a significant jump from NPR 47.7 million in the previous fiscal year. This robust distributable profit translates into an impressive distributable profit per share (DPPS) of NPR 42.58, based on the company's paid-up capital. This strong DPPS figure strongly indicates a high potential for attractive dividends in the upcoming annual general meeting, making MSLB an appealing prospect for income-focused investors.

Beyond profitability, MSLB has also demonstrated substantial growth in its overall business scale. The company's paid-up capital stands at NPR 387.4 million, complemented by a total reserve fund (including retained earnings and general reserves) of NPR 495.6 million. This strong capital base provides a solid foundation for future expansion and resilience. The microfinance institution's outreach and financial inclusion efforts are evident in the growth of its deposit and borrowing portfolio, which expanded from NPR 3.74 billion to NPR 5.50 billion. Concurrently, the loans disbursed to its clients increased from NPR 5.11 billion to NPR 6.17 billion, showcasing a broader reach and deeper engagement within its target communities.

The overall financial health of MSLB is further underscored by the growth in its total assets, which rose from NPR 5.69 billion to NPR 6.66 billion. This expansion in assets reflects the company's increasing operational footprint and its capacity to serve a larger client base. Moreover, the company has made significant strides in managing its asset quality, with the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio decreasing from 12.16% to a more manageable 9.80%. This reduction in NPLs is a critical indicator of improved credit risk management and a healthier loan portfolio, which directly contributes to sustained profitability.

With an impressive earnings per share (EPS) of NPR 49.88, a more than tenfold increase in net profit, and a strong distributable profit per share of NPR 42.58, Mahuli Laghubitta is poised to deliver excellent returns to its shareholders in the coming periods. The combination of aggressive growth, enhanced operational efficiency, and improved asset quality positions MSLB as a compelling investment opportunity within the Nepali microfinance sector. Investors will be keenly watching for the official dividend declaration, which is expected to reflect this stellar financial performance.
