NADA Celebrates Golden Jubilee, Calls for Auto Sector Innovation and Local Production

The Nepal Automobiles Association (NADA) recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of events culminating in a grand ceremony. The golden jubilee celebration commenced with a symbolic walkathon and morning procession, tracing a route from Dasharath Rangashala in Tripureshwar to the Yak & Yeti Hotel in Durbarmarg, symbolizing the journey and progress of Nepal's automotive sector over five decades.

The main event, held after the "50 Years of Journey" walkathon, featured prominent figures from Nepal's business and industrial landscape. Anjuman Shrestha, President of the Nepal Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, Mr. Shrestha underscored the immense contribution of the automobile sector to the national economy. He highlighted that the private sector has invested over NPR 100 billion in this industry, creating millions of direct and indirect employment opportunities across the country. Looking ahead, he emphasized the critical need for the mobility sector to embrace innovation, smart technologies, and environmentally friendly practices to thrive in the evolving global landscape.

Mr. Shrestha further challenged the traditional import-dependent model, urging the private sector to draw inspiration from its "proud past" and shift focus towards domestic manufacturing of auto components and vehicle assembly. This strategic pivot, he argued, is crucial for fostering industrial growth, reducing reliance on imports, and creating a more sustainable and self-reliant automotive ecosystem within Nepal. Such a move would not only boost local industries but also generate higher-value jobs and contribute significantly to the nation's GDP, ultimately strengthening the national economy.

The event saw the participation of other distinguished guests, including Birendra Raj Pandey, President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI); Kamlesh Agarwal, President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce; Krishna Prasad Dulal, former President of NADA; and DSP Rabindra Khanal from the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, all of whom shared their insights and felicitations. Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit and shared vision for the future of Nepal's automotive industry, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts for sectoral advancement.

A key highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a special Golden Jubilee Souvenir, commemorating NADA's journey and achievements over half a century. Additionally, video messages reflecting on NADA's 50 years of establishment were presented, offering a nostalgic yet forward-looking perspective on its foundational role in shaping Nepal's automotive landscape and its advocacy for industry growth.

The program, presided over by NADA President Surendra Prasad Upadhyaya, concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by NADA Vice President Bikram Singhaniya, while General Secretary Milan Babu Shrestha efficiently managed the proceedings. This golden jubilee not only celebrated NADA's past accomplishments but also served as a powerful platform to articulate a forward-looking vision for an automotive sector that is innovative, domestically driven, and a cornerstone of Nepal's economic prosperity.
