In a pivotal cabinet meeting held on Bhadra 12, 2083 (August 28, 2026), the Government of Nepal announced a series of crucial decisions aimed at addressing immediate national challenges, particularly the aftermath of devastating floods, while also bolstering the agricultural sector. These decisions underscore the government's commitment to disaster response, economic stability, and food security, sending clear signals to both citizens and investors about its proactive governance.

One of the most significant directives issued by the cabinet was to the Ministry of Finance, tasking it with the immediate preparation of a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package. This 'Business Recovery Package' is specifically designed to support individuals and commercial organizations severely impacted by the catastrophic floods that struck the Nepal-China border region of Rasuwagadhi and the Bhote Koshi River, along with its downstream areas, on Bhadra 10, 2083. The floods caused extensive damage to infrastructure, livelihoods, and businesses, necessitating urgent governmental intervention. This package is expected to include various forms of financial assistance, subsidies, and other facilitations to help affected communities and enterprises rebuild and recover. For investors, this move signals the government's dedication to mitigating economic disruptions caused by natural disasters, potentially safeguarding investments in affected regions and fostering a more resilient business environment.

Further demonstrating its commitment to national development, the cabinet granted theoretical approval to the Agricultural Inputs Company Limited for the procurement of 25,000 metric tons of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer. This vital agricultural input will be acquired through a Government-to-Government (G2G) purchasing mechanism from the Government of India. This strategic decision is critical for Nepal's predominantly agrarian economy, ensuring a timely and adequate supply of essential fertilizers to farmers. Such procurement helps prevent potential shortages, stabilizes agricultural production, and ultimately contributes to national food security. A consistent supply of fertilizers is paramount for maintaining crop yields, supporting farmers' incomes, and controlling food inflation, all of which are crucial for overall economic stability and investor confidence in the agricultural sector.

In a powerful gesture of solidarity and fiscal responsibility, the cabinet also decided that the Prime Minister and all cabinet members would donate one month of their salary and remuneration to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. This decision, directly aimed at aiding those affected by the Bhote Koshi and Rasuwagadhi floods, highlights the government's empathy and commitment to contributing personally to national relief efforts. Beyond the financial contribution, which will bolster the fund's capacity to provide immediate assistance, this act serves as a strong symbolic message to the public, encouraging broader participation in disaster relief and fostering a sense of collective responsibility. Such leadership can enhance public trust and demonstrate a unified approach to national crises, which is a positive indicator for overall governance and stability.

Collectively, these cabinet decisions reflect a government actively engaged in addressing both immediate humanitarian crises and long-term economic imperatives. By focusing on disaster relief, agricultural support, and demonstrating fiscal commitment, Nepal's leadership aims to stabilize affected regions, strengthen critical economic sectors, and reinforce public confidence. These measures are vital for fostering a resilient economy capable of navigating challenges and attracting sustained investment, both domestically and internationally.
