Dirgha Rawal Appointed Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank

The government has appointed Dirgha Bahadur Rawal as a Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to appoint Rawal to the vacant Deputy Governor position. The appointment fills one of the two Deputy Governor posts that had remained vacant at the central bank since Falgun 25, 2082. The government had appointed Kiran Pandit as Deputy Governor on 24th Chaitra, 2082, leaving the second position vacant. Rawal has now been appointed to the remaining post. Under the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, Deputy Governors are appointed by the Cabinet on the recommendation of the NRB Governor. Although the law provides for two Deputy Governors, the government had appointed only one earlier this year. Rawal, who is from Sudurpaschim Province, was serving as an Executive Director and Head of the Bank Supervision Department at Nepal Rastra Bank. Rawal has spent the past two decades at Nepal Rastra Bank, gaining extensive experience across key areas of the central bank. Before his appointment, he was serving as Executive Director and Head of the Bank Supervision Department. During his career at NRB, Rawal has worked in areas including banking supervision, financial regulation, monetary policy, currency management, and measures against money laundering and terrorist financing. His professional background has also included a five-year tenure as head of Nepal’s Financial Intelligence Unit from 2019 to 2024. Academically, Rawal has an MPhil in Finance, a master’s degree in Economics, an MBA, and a master’s degree in Sociology. He is also pursuing a PhD in Finance at Kathmandu University School of Management.
