Heavy Rainfall Likely in Bagmati Province from Ashwin 9 to 11, Authorities Urge High Alert

The Bagmati Province Government’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law and Cooperatives has urged residents to remain on high alert as heavy rainfall is forecast across various parts of the province from Ashwin 9 to 11. The ministry issued a public notice on Tuesday, calling on residents to take necessary precautions and make adequate preparations in view of the potential risks associated with the forecast weather conditions. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, various parts of Bagmati Province are likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds during the period. The ministry warned that heavy rainfall could increase water levels in rivers and streams, raising the possibility of flash floods, landslides and inundation in vulnerable areas. The ministry has also cautioned that rainfall could affect both road and air transportation. People planning to travel have been advised to check road and weather conditions before beginning their journey. Residents living along riverbanks and streams, in landslide-prone areas, on steep slopes and in locations vulnerable to inundation have been urged to exercise particular caution. Authorities have advised people to move to nearby safe locations promptly if signs of danger emerge and to coordinate with local governments and security agencies when necessary. The ministry has advised the public to avoid long-distance and nighttime travel unless absolutely necessary during the period of heightened weather risks. It has also urged families and communities to pay special attention to the safety of children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women and people with illnesses. Residents have been encouraged to move livestock, food supplies, medicines, important documents and other essential belongings to safe locations in advance. Provincial government agencies, local governments, security agencies, volunteers and other stakeholders have been directed to remain alert and make the necessary preparations to respond to possible emergencies.
