The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has commenced the fiscal year 2083/84 with remarkable vigor, extending its upward trajectory for the second consecutive trading day. On this pivotal second day, the benchmark index surged by an impressive 41.70 points, marking a 1.55% increase, to close at 2,719.24. This follows a significant gain of 79.74 points in the preceding session, signaling a renewed sense of optimism and bullish sentiment among investors as the new fiscal year unfolds.

The trading day began with the NEPSE index opening at 2661.97. Throughout the session, the market demonstrated considerable volatility and active participation, oscillating between an intraday high of 2,719.28 and a low of 2,659.53 before firmly settling at its closing peak. This dynamic movement suggests a healthy tug-of-war between buyers and sellers, ultimately culminating in a positive close that reinforces the upward momentum observed at the very start of the fiscal year.

Market activity was notably vibrant, with a total turnover amounting to Rs. 5.51 Arba (approximately USD 41.3 million). This substantial trading volume was generated from the exchange of 12,245,337 shares across 343 listed companies, facilitated by a high number of 67,155 individual transactions. Such figures underscore a healthy level of liquidity and broad investor engagement, which are crucial indicators for market stability and sustained growth. The total market capitalization reached an impressive Rs. 46.73 Kharba (approximately USD 350 billion), with the float market capitalization standing at Rs. 15.75 Kharba (approximately USD 118 billion), reflecting the overall valuation and the readily tradable portion of the Nepalese equity market.

Leading the turnover chart for the day was Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company Ltd (AKJCL), which recorded transactions worth Rs. 29.15 crores. The company's stock closed at Rs. 374.40, indicating strong investor interest in the hydropower sector, a perennial favorite in the Nepalese market due to its growth potential and often attractive dividend prospects, especially as the nation focuses on energy development.

In terms of individual stock performance, Everest Colour Limited (ECL) emerged as the top gainer, experiencing a remarkable surge of 14.97%. Its stock closed at Rs. 372.40, attracting significant attention and potentially signaling positive company-specific news, strong earnings expectations, or a broader investor shift towards industrial and manufacturing stocks. Conversely, Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ANLB) registered the highest decline, falling by 6.86% to close at Rs. 5,700.00. Such fluctuations are not uncommon in the microfinance sector, which can be sensitive to regulatory changes, interest rate movements, and shifts in investor sentiment regarding credit risk and profitability.

A sectoral analysis revealed that the Manufacturing And Processing sector was the strongest performer, registering an impressive gain of 3.22%. This robust performance could be attributed to expectations of increased industrial activity, favorable government policies aimed at boosting domestic production, or improved consumer demand. In contrast, the Mutual Fund sector recorded a marginal loss of 0.02%. While minimal, this slight dip might reflect a cautious approach by fund managers or a minor rebalancing of portfolios by investors, perhaps shifting capital towards directly traded equities.

The consecutive gains at the outset of FY 2083/84 provide a positive outlook for the Nepalese stock market. Investors will be closely watching for sustained momentum, particularly as the market digests new economic policies, corporate earnings reports, and broader macroeconomic indicators. The strong turnover and broad-based participation suggest a resilient market, poised for further developments in the coming weeks. This early performance sets an optimistic tone, encouraging both domestic and international investors to monitor the NEPSE index with keen interest as the fiscal year progresses.
